NYCDEP – Construction Management/Construction (CM/CI) services at Tallman Island Water
NYCDEP – Construction Management/Construction (CM/CI) Services at Tallman Island Water Pollution Control Plant WPCP), Whitestone Interceptor and Regulator Modifications, Flushing, NY.
SIMCO, as part of a team, is providing construction CM/CI services for this project to maximize wet weather flow management into the Tallman Island WPCP. The project involves the excavation and construction of a 2,200’ long, 6’ x 6’ precast interceptor sewer between 11th Avenue & 131st Place into the Plant. The project is in a residential area and will traverse Powells Cove, a NYC Park.
The first phase involved the excavation of test pits along the proposed alignment of the interceptor to validate/locate subsurface features in preparation for full construction activities.
Stage 1 of the project, the construction of the first 500’ of interceptor is underway.
- Steel sheet piling is being installed for excavation support.
- The street and grade will be excavated, 12” diameter steel pipe piles will be driven, rebar cage inserted and filled with concrete.
- Pile caps will be constructed and the precast concrete interceptor segments placed over the caps.
- The site will be back filled and restored, including roadway restoration as well as parklands.
The project requires extensive coordination with the NYC Department of Parks due to its alignment through the park, as well as coordination relative to tree impacts and landscaping restoration. There is also wetlands involvement.
