Newark International Airport, Continental Airlines Global Gateway, Newark, NJ.

SIMCO participated in the reconfiguration and reconstruction of the multi-level frontage roadway system currently serving Terminal C at the Newark International Airport.

As part of this overall Terminal C Redevelopment project, the changes to the existing frontage roadway system had to be implemented while maintaining full passenger service and operations at the terminal complex. The existing Bypass Roadway was demolished and replaced with a new widened structure.

SIMCO continues to provide technical support for analysis of staged Maintenance of Traffic for the rehabilitation of the bridge ramps on this facility.

Based on the preliminary Terminal C and frontage roadway reconfiguration concepts developed by Continental Airlines and the PANYNJ, the lead design team carried the Terminal C design process through 35% Design Development, 85% Design Development and 100% Construction Document submittals.

SIMCO provided professional, technical support services to the lead design team with respect to:

  • Identification of temporary truck haul routes
  • Preparation of the maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT) plans
  • Determining the extent and level of parking impacts expected during each construction stage, development of signage layout designs
  • Preparation of pavement marking plans
  • Design of intersection signal plans, revision of plans to reflect field changes, design of temporary and permanent traffic signals, and
  • Preparation of responses to Contractor RFIs
