REI Services for Water Main Installation for New Building Construction and for Improvement to the City’s Water Main Distribution System and Fire Protection in Various Locations, Boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island, NY

SIMCO Engineering, P.C. as a Lead JV partner provided REI Services for this capital project to install water mains for new building construction and to improve the City’s water main distribution and fire protection systems in various locations in the Boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn.

In this project, 8”, 12”, and 20” water mains and appurtenances were installed in locations which were provided by the Department of Environmental Protection.

The Resident Engineer and the inspection staff:

• Monitored, inspected and documented all contractor work
• Ensured that all work was done according to the latest NYCDEP Specifications
• Helped DEP crew in the water shut downs
• Provided community outreach to assist residents and business owners
• Determined that the work is performed in a safe and healthy manner as per OSHA regulations
• Documented the contractor work and provide daily reports
• Provided as built records such as In Service Sheets, Tap Cards, and Field Cards

The Resident Engineer and the Office Engineer established a filing system which facilitated the documentation of the contract. They also processed the contractor payments.

The Resident Engineer reviewed all manufacturer certificates for pipes and fittings to ensure quality and compliance with specifications and coordinated the work with the utility company and other city agencies.

Additionally, the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer coordinated the progress meeting with contractor to monitor project schedule and progress.
