SIMCO Engineering, P.C. as a JV partner is providing Resident Engineering Inspection Services for School Safety Improvements throughout the city by the installation of an assortment of capital improvement measures (Phase III) in the Boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan

The main goal of this project is to add and/or improve safety in the vicinity of the schools.

  • Bump outs will be installed in some corners to calm the vehicular traffic around the schools.
  • Pedestrian ramps with detectable warning surface will be installed in all corners. Steel faced curbs and new sidewalks will be installed at some corners.
  • Utility work will be performed in order to allow the reconstruction of the new corners. This work includes the relocation of the water mains and Hydrants.
  • Trench restoration is also performed in this work. Milling and paving of the roadway will be performed at some intersections.
  • New pavement markings such as cross walks, stop bars and the word messages “SCHOOL X-ING” & “STOP” will be installed. The project includes street lighting and traffic signal work. We coordinated the work with the utility companies such as Con Edison and ECS (Verizon) to resolve the interference with contract work.

This work includes sewer work such as abandoning existing catch basins and manholes, the installation of clean-out manholes and installation of new catch basins along with their chute connections.

The work is also done with coordination with NYCTA (Transit Authority) to protect the subway tunnel on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan.
